Career
Sylvain Vité has got a PhD from the University of Geneva
since June 1999. His dissertation deals with « International Fact-Finding
Procedures in the Field of International Humanitarian Law ». He
also obtained a Diploma of Graduate Studies in International Law from
the Graduate Institute of International Law of Geneva, as well as a
Master of Laws (LL.M) in International Legal Studies from the Washington
College of Law (American University).
After having occupied the position of lecturer at the department of
constitution law, University of Geneva from 1993 until 1999, in 2000
he was a delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)
in Colombia. After this he took up a position as legal advisor to the
World Organisation Against Torture (OMCT) until September 2004.
Since 2002 he has worked as lecturer and project manager at the UCIHL.
In particular, he has recently published, together with two other research
fellows, a study entitled, "The Application of International Humanitarian
Law and Human Rights Law to International Organisations: International
Forces and Transitional Civil Administrations", (in French only:
